The proposed Duluth city code amendment that would further restrict where new adult bookstores or strip clubs could set up shop was recommended by the City Planning Commission on Tuesday night. The commission voted unanimously to recommend changes to need dating site city code brought by City Councilor Sharla Gardner in June. Under the amendment, no strip club or adult bookstore could open within 2, feet of a residential zone, church, school, public park, pedestrian place or other dating site for celebrities entertainment business. The current code states a distance of feet. A grandfather clause would exempt existing businesses such as the Saratoga Club. Legal concerns about the proposal were ironed out at a meeting last week, said Heather Rand, planning commission president.
